1. Comfortable Under Ear Pro

Headaches caused by ear protection squeezing sunglasses against your head are no fun. To avoid this, look for sunglasses with thin temples just above the ear which will reduce the pressure. A good pair of sunglasses should have temples designed to work well under earmuffs.

2. Razor Sharp Optics

Whether it’s quickly picking up on clays in the sky or spotting deer in the backcountry, optical clarity is make or break. While there are lots of technologies to choose from, as a shooter you’re going to want lenses that improve depth perception, enhance color contrast and amplify color.

3. Eye Protection

At a minimum you’re going to want something with shatterproof lenses (glass lenses are a HUGE no-go). Extra points if it offers a ballistic protection rating like ANSI Z87.1.

Remember, you don’t need to spend $150+ to find a solid pair of glasses, but just make sure they offer the right level of protection.

4. Durable

Shooters are not known to go easy on their gear - and for good reason. Train how you fight and in a SHTF scenario your gear better do its job. Sunglasses are no different and should be able to take any abuse your throw their way and should be backed with a lifetime warranty for good measure.

5. All Day Comfort

“Forget you’re wearing them comfort” is a real thing that I've found starts in the $50-$100 sunglasses range (sorry cheap gas station glasses). Especially on long hunts, eyewear should feel like an extension of yourself rather than something you’re constantly fiddling with. Luckily though, you don’t need to spend $100+ to find that set-it-and-forget-it pair of sunglasses.

6. Multi-Purpose

I like buying eyewear that is versatile so that I can use it when hunting, shooting, driving or in everyday life. That means it has to be stylish while also meeting the 5 requirements mentioned above. This is definitely not mandatory but something I personally look for because I like to get the most bang for my buck.
